Connect Hackney

We would like to invite you to a series of workshops to discuss the needs of older people in the recovery phase of Covid-19.

As we emerge from crisis phase of Covid-19, we now need to plan and prepare our recovery from Covid-19, building our local resilience to protect against the potential impact of a second wave. This event is being held to find the solutions to the challenges that older people, and the organisations that provide relevant services, are likely to face as we transition into a ‘new normal’.

Your input will inform the Covid-19 VCS Recovery & Resilience strategy, as well as informing updates to the Ageing Well strategy being revisited by Hackney Council in light of Covid-19.

Guest Attendees / Speakers:
• Cllr Chris Kennedy – Cabinet member for Health, Adult Social Care and Leisure
• Cllr Yvonne Maxwell – Mayoral Advisor for Older People
• Cynthia White – Chair, Older People’s Reference Group
• Tony Wong – Programme Director, Connect Hackney.

Workshops events will be held on 18 and 21 August at which you will be able to attend four breakout room discussions on the following:
1. Tackling Social Isolation and Loneliness – (including the digital divide and coproduction)
2. How do we identify and support those most in need/at risk?
3. Addressing fears and anxieties (to support emotional and mental well-being)
4. Supporting the management of additional needs.
Our intention is that over two days everyone will get the opportunity to attend all four discussions (two discussions each at each session, using a World Café style approach). Both sessions are open to all professionals working within the older people’s sector, but we are equally keen to have a strong attendance of residents with lived experience of ageing.

The sessions will be virtual, and be hosting on Zoom.
