Hackney Giving launches Coronavirus Response Fund

Hackney Giving has launched a fundraising appeal for a Coronavirus Response Fund. It will offer grants to the small, local organisations that care for our communities every day during the coronavirus crisis.

Hackney Giving is a simple and coordinated way for individuals and businesses to support grassroots voluntary and community organisations in Hackney – especially at this time. The giving fund is run by Hackney CVS, a charitable organisation with over 20 years’ history supporting the borough’s voluntary and community groups.

They aim to offer grants of up to £3,000 to groups that are working with older people and vulnerable groups that will be disproportionately affected by the outbreak, homeless people and refugees, and residents with mental health needs as well as to organisations that are supporting residents (particularly those on low incomes) to access the supplies and necessities they need.

Hackney Giving aims to raise £30,000 by the end of April. By choosing Hackney Giving, donors can be sure that their donations will be distributed fairly and diligently.

“Hackney Giving is a really simple way to give to the borough’s small charities and voluntary groups, which do such an amazing job in supporting Hackney’s residents.”

Matt Bray, Communications Director

“At this time of crisis, many of these groups are seeing an increase in demand for their services and are having to adapt the way they work.. Hackney Giving is a way to give to the community even while you can’t get out and about to volunteer. If you’re not buying your morning coffee or paying for the train at the moment, donating the money to Hackney Giving will make a real difference to the organisations that care for Hackney’s communities. We are very grateful to Burberry in Hackney who have supported the fund with a donation of almost four thousand pounds.”
