Connect Hackney

Connect Hackney has four digital projects for older people

The Amity Project runs from April until October 2021

The Amity Project is providing one to one bespoke training for older people aged 50 years and over with the aim of improving digital confidence and online skills. They will be providing digital equipment and a data package to older residents for a period of 6 months – removing financial barriers to digital inclusion. They will also be providing weekly 1-hour group sessions to keep skills refreshed in a supportive group led by one of their friendly digital facilitators.

Groundwork London – Silver Connections

Groundwork London – Silver Connections is an engaging mobile phone course for over 50s to gain skills that promote interaction and reduce social isolation, by sharing how to independently access information available at their fingers tips. The focus is on simple tips to make their lives easier, more enjoyable, and teaching participants’ new ways to discover what’s on in their local area, get out and about (COVID dependent) and make friends. Many older adults have been handed down smartphones from family members, but often rely on others to use them; Silver Connections aims to change that and help participants become self-sufficient.

Groundwork London will run 5 courses across the year, with 6 group workshops per course. The courses are delivered via Zoom, or face-to-face, depending on current government COVID guidelines.

Newham New Deal Partnership ‘The @online Network’

Newham New Deal Partnership ‘The @online Network’ helps build older people’s confidence to get online and increase their opportunities for social interaction and engagement. @online club activities include: learning courses, taster sessions, technical advice and social sessions (bingo, quiz, music, IT challenge) – delivered by a Digital Inclusion Worker and team of volunteers. In the first quarter of the year @nline courses will comprise one socially distanced face to face set up session, and then remote delivery, by telephone/Zoom using trained Digital Buddy volunteers who will work with individual participants and guide them through their learning.

Hackney CVS ‘Connect Hackney Senior Media Group

Hackney CVS ‘Connect Hackney Senior Media Group’ is a weekly group that provides training for older people in digital journalism skills, including using computers, photography, writing, interviewing techniques and audio production. Participants help produce Hackney Senior magazine.
