Hackney Social Radio
Hackney Social Radio was developed as an extension of Immediate Theatre’s Theatre Exchange work with over 50s. The programme addresses digital isolation amongst older people, creating a sense of community through the airwaves.
Broadcasting weekly on Wednesdays, programmes have a presenter-led, magazine style, featuring music requests, audience phone-ins, stories from the community, features from local artists, interviews and advice from experts with regular up-to-date information about where to access help and support.
The weekly hour-long programme is being produced with local intergenerational station Reel Rebels Radio and features DJ Frank Kaos, aged 78, who provides the music.
A recent highlight was a special feature on the Hackney Brocals, a Connect Hackney funded project, formed to combat male loneliness – or what they call “Bronliness”.
