Connect Hackney

Over 100 older people turned out for Healthwatch Hackney’s Let’s Talk About Ageing Well event at the Pembury community centre in July.

Organised by Healthwatch Hackney’s project NHS Community Voice,
the event aimed to give older people useful information on ways to improve their wellbeing.

People tried IT sessions, exerces and and seated yoga sessions, as well as a tasty lunch.

They also learned about Five to Thrive activities – evidence-based activities that improve people’s wellbeing.

Participants also got a chance to talk about what works for them.

This included:

  • Lunch clubs,
  • community
  • exercise
  • community events and
  • connecting with others

Attendees also mentioned barriers to wellbeing such as :

  • Long waiting times,
  • temporary accommodation
  • caring responsibilities

Healthwatch have collated all the feedback from the event in a report which was shared with NHS City and Hackney clinical commissioning group (CCG).

As a result of this, the CCG will provide a formal response, setting out how feedback from the event will be used to plan and shape services for older people in City and Hackney.

These details will be shared on the Healthwatch Hackney website and newsletter.
