New project designed for men over 50 with hearing loss
DeafPLUS has a new project designed specifically for men over 50 who live in Hackney and have a hearing loss (plus their partners/carers). Research tells us that older men are not accessing projects and services in Hackney that could enhance their health, mental wellbeing, combat isolation and improve their social network.
This new project, which is funded by Connect Hackney and in partnership with Action on Hearing loss, will help men who have a hearing loss to develop good coping strategies to deal with the changes to their hearing, find out what equipment and support is available, pick up some practical communication tips, learn some basic lip reading techniques and improve their confidence.
There are two courses planned. Living with hearing loss courses each course will run for 7 weeks for just 2 hours a week and is for men who have a hearing loss plus their close relatives/supporters the dates for these courses are:
Course 1. Starting 5th February 2019 to 19th March 2019
Course 2. Starting 4th June 2019 to 16th July 2019
Time 10.30 to 12.30. Venue details to be confirmed.
In the meantime if you have contact with any men over 50 who are experiencing hearing loss and isolation – please refer them to our project.
